pronounced fishta-ble

The final Mac Hall comic comes to mind. I feel like a regular and comforting item is gone. On the other hand, I have replaced it with something that makes me feel a lot more grown up. More like an adult. I guess all of this needs to be illustrated, so here you go. The last days of the first piece of furniture that I bought ($5 garage sale style) and the new age of the first piece of furniture that I made (age 7 thank you very much).

The hole in the arm rest. The broken foot stool feature. The grossness of the fabric. All of that added up to a very comfortable chair. I've had it since 7th grade. That would make me about...11? 12?
Now, on the other hand the fishtable (pronounced fishta-ble) is a piece of art. Cold steel that was welded as a favor to my dad (and a 6 pack of Dr. Pepper that I vividly remember giving to the welder personally). Glass that I recently found out cost well over a $100. The broken stone was laying in our backyard (dad is a stone mason) and to me the fracture looked like a water line as seen sideways. I first drew the fish outline from a laminated scuba fish guide. Then I drew etched it in with a nail, then a manual chisel, then with an air chisel. I'm very proud of it.

Obviously, I'll get some better pictures this weekend so you can see the details. These are just from my phone.

I'll miss my TV/game playing/computer watching chair, but everything comes to an end.
