there (miraculously) is an authorized apple repair/sales shop in fairbanks. for $65 they told me that the damage is only superficial, except that the cd/dvd drive is bent too much to allow insertion of a disc. i'm a little worried that with further use, something else could go wrong with the mother board or some chip that was knocked loose, but they said it wasn't a problem. the pieces i need are about $200 dollars each and there are two of them. the bottom of the laptop has two halves and both of them are banged up enough that they need to be replaced. the top one isn't too bad on its own, but set against a new bottom piece, it wouldn't be flush. they offered to fly in the parts, but i didn't want to test the noctorioulsy testie alaskan mail system. when i get back to houston i'll take it to an official mac store and have them fix it.
sooooo, that's going well.
other news:
begich.com
i'm mostly hanging out with max in his office, doing calls to voters and making signs and eating thai food. i think i'm going to Denali National Park for a day. probably by myself (+laptop). i can't think of a better place to work on the Hostel Takeover website. out in the wilderness. mountains and shit? come on. best office ever.
so thanks for all your concerns about the bad. all the good karma you sent really helped me feel better and make the repairs less than i was preparing myself for.
