holiday out

yes that's right dear reader. i don't care about holidays very much. one exception is in Jan and the other is in Jul. bonus points if you get them both right!
this year for thanksgiving, i'm again flirting with the idea of not going to visit family. i do this every year, and every year i'm glad i went to either stephenville, or san antonio. or both. usually both. yes. that right, a round trip that makes my drive from DC. to boston look like a quick trip around the nacogdoches loop. this year might be different, b/c i have a Dynamo game to go attend in LA on the 23rd of november. they'll be winning the finals again and i'll be there to watch (for the third year in a row). I'm not sure how that will work, but that isn't the point is it?

i made that chart myself. i'm pretty handy with computers. most notible from my list of omitted caring of holidays is xmas. while i do enjoy the Futurama xmas episodes, i don't really get into the christmas spirit. maybe this* is why.
i also don't care much for halloween. i do enjoy a good costume party, but as you know, the time of year is independant of when my friends and i have a costume party**. i find the least good thing about halloween is the decorations. you know i love Orange, but the stupid cobwebs and shit. no thanks.

other holidays i hate:
  • columbus day - i love the story of the Indian guy who flew to italy and claimed it for his own one year
  • _____ office mate/worker/boss day - yeah hallmark, go ahead and make some more shit up
  • easter - what is going on with this holiday? oh yeah, it is an attempt to christianize pagans. well, since it worked, do we still have to do it? this one really gets be b/c there is NO attempt to gloss over why we get a day off work. straight jesus love.
  • president's day - i refuse to celebrate regan and nixon

*all i could find of the annual Christmas Blockbuster program was the wiki entry for Glenn Mitchell, who hosted the dreadded program until his death. i'm not surprised that the internet wants to forget about that horrible 12 hours a year just as much as i do. but i bet the internet didn't have to listen to the previous 20 years of tapes like i did/do.

**classic annual parties include Mabeufapalloza (RIP), the hobo party, the pirate party, naked party, drink till you die I, II, III, IV, V, etc. , all things Journey, and i'm missing some more. help dear friends!

Hah! Yeah, I was going to post and say Rockstar. However, technically speaking, the only ANNUAL parties were Rockstar, Pirate, Drink til you Die, and the Classy Parties. All of the others were one-shot deals of varying intensity and goodness.

Also wasn't there a cowboy party at Tim's once? Oh, and the terrorist party (9/11 never forget).

That Christmas special sounds awful, but I'm a sucker for Holidays. My sister and I talked about this recently. Halloween, New Year's, Thanksgiving, Christmas, love 'em. For the most part.

a. columbus day is the dumbest holiday ever.
b. xmas should always be celebrated in july. or not at all.
c. i still like glenn mitchell's holiday crap. even if it is mostly for the occasional dirty song he threw in.
d. stop by on your way back from LA and i'll cook you a steak and some of those green bean and bacon thingies to celebrate the 3-peat.
e. i have no idea why january tops your chart. (? because it proves you made it through another holiday season?)
f. i do still like xmas eve. someday i hope to experience it at sean or josephine's house.

and then i leave with santa at midnight.
