photoaday 15th

oh yeah! the Maxwell machine is coming back from Alaska/DC for a Texian visit. there will be much rejoicing of the non-rememberable variety.

today's photo was taken somewhere outside of Johannesburg, during the World Cup. Max and i were driving a rental car to Swaziland and back. in a day. for no reason. in a similar vein of righteous craziness, we decided to pick up the Justin Beiber CD and listen to it non-stop throughout the trip. we sang a lot.

oh yeah, driving across South Africa was cool too.

bonus picture! me in Alaska! i hope i get to go back to AK with mabeuf sometime. he loves it and who doesn't?

thanks for the kick in the butt JT

i'll be in Africa for the 2010 world cup! that is crazy. i'll be in Africa. not everyone is going to africa. my life in NZ is probably over in april, and after that i'll make my way to either Australia and then Malaysia, or straight to Malaysia. i'm not too keen on hitting up Australia to be honest. unless i get some WWOOFing gigs set up, i'm not prepared to spend $30 odd dollars on hostels.

here's a look at how money works:

things are looking good for my South African trip. note to self: start booking hostels for the world cup.* they're looking really cheap, which is good. but maybe Max has some ideas about where to stay. hey Bryn, as the only person i know who has been to the African continent, what do i need to know/do? kthx.

in other news, i'll be watching the NZ national cricket team play in Dunedin against Pakistan. !!!!! it is a 5 day test match and tomorrow will be the 3rd day. they're doing ok now with like 380 something for 9 wickets. yeah. that's right. i kinda understand cricket. BOOM!

looking back at my goals for my NZ trip:
2. get money get paid (work only when i need to)
3. blog once a week
4. take a picture everywhere i go
8. don't loose passport

i'm doing ok on about 4 of them**, with josephine's number 11 happening in 18 days and 9 hours!!!
i'll go ahead and say that watching the NZ national cricket team is going to be as close to watching the all blacks rugby team play, but the cricket team is called the 'black caps'. either way i'm pumped!
we are doing #5 when josephine visits!!! that is my x-mas present to her. well. one of them.

oo- i was going to write more, but i've been offered another shift at work. how can i say no to that? gotta make those sweet sweet rands.

*crap. i need to wait for the group stages to be scheduled.
**maybe not so great on the blogging once a week. but on average it has to be close.

are you ready?

max: i am so pumped for our weekend

me: yeah, that is next weekend right?

me: basically the world will end

max: fried okra
i can't wait

me: cheap lonestars and copious amounts of wings

max: to eat so much of it that there are still whole pieces when i puke after 15 lone stars 10 shots of tequila and a flashback

me: well put my friend well put

perfect

Today's song is by Macho Man Randy Savage - Perfect Friend

[INTRO]
This one goes out to my real close friend and buddy
Curt Hennig A.K.A. Mr. Perfect just want to
let you know that you're missed but you'll never be forgotten
You've always been an incredible friend and we just want
you to know that we've got your back buddy
system style from Macho Man Randy Savage

This, of course is spoken. We're now ready to pay tribute to Mr. Perfect. He really was my Perfect friend.

[VERSE 1]
Hey Curt we miss you but we know you're in a better place
It's kinda hard as time goes on and I don't see your face
So I'm clinchin' and I'm holdin' on to memories
Remember the times rollin' strong just you and me
It's real hard sometimes to keep it goin' day to day
But I know you wouldn't want it any other way
So I keep it movin' doin' what I gotta do
And as a tribute I'm dedicating this song to you
[CHORUS x2]
You were my perfect friend
Right there until the end
I'm forever missin' you
Until we meet again
Can't explain this pain
Never felt like this
Mr. Perfect don't you know
That you'll be truly missed
Such a great chorus. I hope to meet some of the back up singers.
[VERSE 2]
Mr. Perfect's the name it'll never be forgotten
As long as Macho's around I'm a keep ya spot in
Wrestling history cuz you were all about perfection
It's not a mystery that wrestling was the right selection
Cuz you were one of the best very high on my list
Not just in the ring but outta the ring you're dearly missed
But your name lives on we carry on your legacy
Cuz the passion that you left with us lives on in me

I love how he says "arrrrrrouuuunnnnnd". Was his passion rapping? Having cameos in spiderman* movies?

[CHORUS x2]

[VERSE 3]
We remember Mr. Perfect (you know you'll be truly missed)
He was always in command (you know you'll be truly missed) [x3]
His greatness was so obvious
That all could understand

He brightened up a locker room (you know I'm missin' you (missin' you)
He made the time go by (how much you'll never know (never know)
He had personality (deep in our hearts we'll never ever forget you)
Gregarious, not shy

Seriously, who had to explain 'gregarious' to Macho?

He really was perfection
But now he's gone away
We're lucky to have known him
And we'll miss him everyday
Mr. Perfect

He throws in a final spoken "Mr. Perfect" at the end.

[CHORUS x3]

I hope to go here some day. Yes. This song is fucking amazing. Here is a fact that you probably already know: I listened to this song for 24 hours straight. Yeah, you can bow down to my greatness, as well as Mr. Perfect's. mabeuf said that I wouldn't. I did. I was writing a term paper and needed to stay up all night long. I went and bought a few rockstars and put this song on repeat. Acutally, it wasn't on repeat, it was a playlist that was 24 hours long, that way I could tell how long I had. Not that I ever wanted it to end. Have you ever listened to an album so much that when the first song ends you instinctivly think of the beginning melody/tune/lyrics of the next song? I can't underestimate how much I think of the beginning of THIS song when it ends. I think of the same song after it ends. It feels like a drug. It feels horrible to not listen to it again after I finish it. I think that is called addiction.

You might think I got a little lazy today with the intersplicing of commentary between verses. I didn't this song is too good for me to ruin with too much witty commentary.

* everytime i mention that pussy spiderman i feel like i should say Batman twice. Batman.

more alaska

http://gallery.me.com/seanlb#100073

More Alaska pictures. I went with Max and his friend Graeme and we destroyed this mountain with our climbing skills. We killed 19 bears. Max and Graeme tried and failed to jump over a river. I was wiser and drier. We found lots of different animal poop that I couldn't identify, which is odd, b/c I'm usually good at that. Lots of cool animal tracks, and a more than a million great views. We also saw some wolves running across the road.
The view was always amazing. Google "Denali" and check it out.

The end of the day was me driving home with Beuf napping. Then I hit up some college pizza and beer at this cool place that made me a 2x cheese, 2x garlic and artichoke hearts pizza. It was awesome.

fitting indeed.

**************
this post was written the day Max got the gloves, but posted when i recieved the picture of him in the gloves.
**************

Fitting that on the day I decide to grow a pair and buy plane ticket to Alaska, that mabeuf gets the Pumas gloves that I sent him. You'll remember that he bought me a pimptight Dynamo jersey a few times, and in return, I buy him Pumas stuff. Stuff, plural, because no one thing can ever equal the greatness of a Dynamo jersey. So far he has a sweet jersey, soccer shorts*, ashtray/shotglass/lighter/figurine combo, socks(?), keychain, braclet, and some other stuff. I just sent him some goalie gloves and a patch.

One time I went to DC to visit and we both wore our Pumas jerseys, mine is the away and his is the home. Anyway- we went to hang out with these really cool and really fancy girls** and we're both in our jerseys, when they opened the door they were like "uhh...you guys know we're fancy and we're going out to bars...and we'll be in public...right??"
We probably said something along these lines: "uhh...you know that there is only one way we could be dressing nicer, and we wore our Dynamo jerseys for the last two days...right?"

I'm going to Fairbanks, Alaska on Sept. 17th to the 25th. ESAD newbs. That also means that Max owes me bigtime. When I'm chillin' in Portugal he will have to come give me blumpkins. (i kid, i kid, but he will have to visit.)

The following conversation happened when he got the gloves:

max:
rtjhfnqajks feor thge4 glkoivers
they arre2 fuckionmg awqesolme

me: what?

max: i am never typing withg anytgingf else

me: the gloves
awesome
and why should you sir?
do the gloves fit your skeletor hands?
shit. i didn't take a picture of them. will you send me a picture of you typing in them?

max: hell yes i will
me: nice!
i saw them and basically threw my wallet at the woman selling them in the market, told her to take what she wanted and leave me enough for a stamp

max: hey due i aM TAkinfg a picyurer for you rikghjtfnow

me: hahaha so good.

max: this is tyhe b eatg thnkinbhg gtnmaTGHAS EV EER HAPPENED
have the picture will send later

me: i hope melvin bizmark thinks it is cool. his campaign pretty much will rule if you use those to type

max: melvin bizmark, fucking classic***

max

max, the contiguous US misses you too.

This is what it has come to

all hail the following email conversation. i won't post the gchat conversations that are going on. that's just private man. more to come i'm sure.
updated: 4 time(s).
added times and edited intro
added my response

mabeuf to us (9:24pm):
So I am willing to admit that I was just watching The Hills in order to pronounce the death of our beloved Alkaline Trio. They were just featured on the show when one of the girls helped them schedule a recording session for their new CD.

Please act accordingly gentlemen.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

me to us(9:21am):

the jury is out on you max.
pending a man law investigation.
dru says:
"i blame his viewership for the downfall of one of my fav bands"
what say you others?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
max to us again(9:44am):

Also I promise that Brian was watching this as well, no way in hell he was not.

Beuf
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
dru to us (emphatically)(10:59am):

Gentlemen, it appears we have a crisis on our hands. Mabeuf Croes, our dear friend, needs an intervention to stop the blatant lack of respect for quality manshows. I, like most of you, overlooked the farcicle plot of Gilmore Girls instead focusing on the uberhottness of the characters and the "to clever to ever happen in real life" banter. We all thought that no harm could come from the production of such a (seemingly) innocent show, and therefor allowed max to double the neilson ratings, flood message boards, and download every episode for months if not years. In the same vein most of us have endured through one of his favorite movies "Mean Girls", based solely on his biased suggestions. Once again a smoking hot cast of characters blinded us to the total lack of Man-Merit anywhere in the 2 hellish hours it took to end. But, as fellow deviants, no one wanted to cast the first stone so once again, no harm, no foul.
This carefree hippy attitude stops now.
Alkaline Trio, joyous benefactors, have been bestowing gifts upon the mortal race for neigh a decade, blessing us with such ambrosia as "Clavicle" "cop" ...(edited for time)... "every thug needs a lady" and "blue in the face" to name a few. Part of the mystery of their greatness was derived from the staunch antipopculture that makes their legacy still burn angstily (i can make up words too brian, labia) in our hearts.
To quote the raven, Nevermore.
The clear parallel between mabeufs decent into littlegirldom and a3's fall from grace into primetime pop culturedom can no longer be ignored. Lest we forget we are talking about a band that, no matter the date or location will let any fan with an a3 tattoo in the show for free. This isnt a commercial endeavor, for the altruistic members of our beloved a3 simply want to please their fans... fans like mabeuf croes. Had the foundation of their fan base stayed firm against the growing tide of television designed for preteen girls, there is a strong possibility that the band would have rejected any collaborations with the show instantly.
Yet we sit here today as stupified as if max bemis decided to collaborate with Disturbed.
Is there someone to blame? yes
Is that what we are going to do? no
it is not mabeufs fault that he is a little girl, and in a metephoric way im sure that we have all been there; or whatever. As penance i suggest the most drastic strategy that popped into my head since ive been writing this email, 1 month of nothing but hunting and fishing shows, along with weekly 'check ins' where he texts us pics of his most recent high scores at Big-Game-Deer-Hunter.
Its not going to bring back the a3 that we respect, admire, and sometimes pretend we are when sleeping with seans mom/sister, But it may be enough of a shock statement to the underground music scene so that the younger generation of rockers never has to endure what we have.
respectfuly,
MyballsYourface
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

max to us(11:04):

I had the wrong Daniel on this. Changed that.
Others, please file your complaints. Dru's message has really struck a cord with me and I look forward to your insights.
Beuf
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
me to us(11:42):

I'll have all you fuckers know that Janette/Josephine Bibby are saints. Janice "More" Moore on the other hand can continue to lick balls for a living.

Onto more pressing matters, I want to add my 2 cents to this conversation. I found a little thing called wikipedia and I used a 10 foot pole to type in "the hills". Upon reading the first line I threw up in my mouth a lot. The first line references "laguna beach" as a popular show. I remember a time when mabeuf would snort pixie sticks, shotgun beers, break faces at futbol games, and grow his hair wild like the pre-colonial African landscape.
Now it seems that the only thing growing long and free is his wanton abuse of his now shriveled balls. I agree with Dru, reparations need to be paid. Here are just a few ideas:

-sell the scion and get a pick-up truck that gets no better than 6 miles to the gallon
-he must at all times wear a shirt that has the logo of a kickass band (said band cannot have a girl lead (obviously))
-he must play any Mortal Kombat game within 30 days, and then within the following 7 days must preform at least seven (7) aerial kicks
-he must wingman for Donny within the next year
-he must infiltrate and assassinate all five members of the new kids on the block while they are on their upcoming reunion tour
-we all get 40 acres and a mule

forever your bro,
-sean "bd" bibby

p.s. a fellow co-worker contributed the new kids on the block line and the following conversation happened: "
christine: are there five new kids on the block? i don't really know for sure.
me:
i dunno. find out. i don't want to look like a dumbass
christine: i bet max would know for sure!"
Burn.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
max to us (3:28pm):
I got a haircut yesterday and I now look like Gordon Freeman.

That has to win me some points back.
"Who is Gordon Freeman" All of the people i work with

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
brian to us (9:24pm):
at least you could have said, uh hey guys i was like watching monster truck rally thing and uh i was holding my dick and i think i may not like alkaline trio anymore. with thta staement i can derive you at least have a penis. everythign else alludes to total levels of gayosity past what my gaydar can detect.

ps monster trucks = girly show ie. gilmore girls, full house, designing women, anything on the TLC channel.
PPS gilmore girls = many hours andrew COULD have gone pump shotty

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
max to us(8:00am):
There is no way in hell that Brian was not watching this at the same moment I was. No fucking way that we were not having a 'look at the north star' type of moment while yearning to be by one another's side.

DC in March

Once again I'm in DC for a Dynamo game. I love this city. So much is happening all the time. I can get any kind of food I want, see and do anything I want, buy anything I want. Living in Nac really makes me appreciate traveling more. Last night I met some of Max's friends and we had a few drinks at a cool bar called Wonderland. Then we ate Burmese food- which is their favorite. It was really good, but I'd rather have Thai. The Burmese food was a little bland? Bland is certainly not the word, but I can see how Max and his friends like it better, Thai might be too in their face. Anyway- it was awesome. Then we picked up some Yuengling (regional beer that is so tasty).
We played wii and drank for a bit. I went to bed pretty early, but shit, I woke up at 5 Nac time to start traveling.
Woke up this morning and got a message that Max had forgotten his ants on a log*, so I hopped on the Metro and brought him his shit. After that I made a detour to Pentagon City to check out the Apple store and my future Macbook Pro. I wish the money that the school owes me was here already. They owe me over $3300 for all the traveling I've been doing. Half to pay off the credit card I used and half to put down on a laptop to replace the old one.
I took the long way back to Max's place and was rewarded with a cool deli. The guy and the place had some obvious history in the neighborhood. I really enjoyed talking to him about the MLK fires and riots** and the best places to get food in DC. I just finished one of the best roast beast sammichs of my life.

Now I'm off to get his car oil checked and what not. Tomorrow we let loose the dogs of war and drive to New York, then Boston, then probably jail after we riot the cities face off after the Dynamo's crushing victory.

Oh- also. Get a twitter account. Everyone. Do it before your ideal name is taken.
You can see my recent Twitter activity on the sidebar there ---->

* he uses celery instead of bananas. what a dumb fuck!
**max lives in Columbia Heights, where some of the most severe rioting took place. the city is opening up blocks this week that have been nothing for over 30 years.

reunion tour

The best CD of the year is Reunion Tour by the Weakerthans.

The Weakerthans are a band out of Canada with indie and punk influences. They use mellow instruments and deep lyrics to tell short stories that are almost often from the 1st person. I always see myself walking through the stories, however sad.
Every song reaches 35,000 ft., but two pierce the thin membrane of ozone and transcend into the cosmos. Civil twilight and Sun in an empty room. Catchy and deep. My favorite combo. In Sun in an Empty Room, I can see so clearly the empty apartment I used to live in and how it looked empty and bright. I think of all the things I meant back then. And how different I am now. How, if I could I would do things differently. And also, I like screaming "SUN IN AN EMPTY ROOOOOOOMMMMM" as soon as I get in the car.
In Civil Twilight, I hear more of the old Weakerthans than any other song. I love the line:
"And they bite their mitts off to show me transfers, deposit change
and I can't stop finding your face in their faces, all rearranged
and angry like you never were;"
Their last three installments are so prized to me that I was afraid of getting "punched in the dick".* He's so right too. Our favorite music is often followed by either a sell out album or something good, but not equal. I'm so relieved to be thrilled with these songs. I was similarly impressed with the newest Rilo Kiley album, but the Weakerthans have always held a higher spot on my heart's playlist than the ever smokin' hot Jenny Lewis.

If you ever have the chance to listen** to the Weakerthans, do it.

I'm going to go listen to the album now. I'll be thinking of you and how much I wish I didn't love angsty catchy music.

*Dude, after the Say Anything cd punched me in the dick, this fucking rules. So fucking good man, so good. -max

bets

I love making bets with people. But only Trading Places* type bets.
Max and I were talking about who owes who what today. I had to cover him on some sweet mlsgear.com stuff (holla cyber monday!**). Max told me to send over the total so he could pay me back after his stolen card thing gets worked out.
The conversation basically went like this:
"are we even max?"
"i dunno"
"shit. me neither. i think i owe you."
"do we still use panda cafe meals as currency?"
"god i wish. i think we use tickets. dynamo tickets, rockets tickets, plane tickets"

It is true. We've gone from tacos and Chinese food as currency to events that we can both center on. More than just physically. Bond isn't the right word. More of a consensusly arrived at call to arms. That doesn't sound right, but I think it is.

I just bet Kevin a buck that the Packers would take advantage of a Romo meltdown this Thursday. Besides everyone in America hating the NFL network, it should be a good game. And the dollar lost or won represents the topmost atom of the iceberg when it comes to how much shit talking will occur. People really love American football. And in turn, I love hating their favorite teams and rooting for the underdog SeaHawks***.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do in Vegas this winter. I don't know if they have tables where the only bets accepted are for 1 dollar and must be wagered on random stuff. And how do you measure shit talk?

last weekend

Pictures!

http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=623876&highlight=group+photo

Hit up that forum topic. The first page has a lot of cheerleaders, but it gets more about the fans and the game after the first page. I was directly next to the fire extinguisher.

I will post more pictures of

The weekend as I remember it:

  1. Wake up ass early to drive to Houston in the freezing morning.
  2. Get to Houston.
  3. Drive for an hour through Houston.
  4. Get on a plane with a ton of other Dynamo fans.
  5. Get to Baltimore and ride a train with a cool woman from Oslo to the city. Oslo is where they have the Viking ship museum. We talked at length about living in America vs. living in Europe. She came over here for a summer and ended up staying for 37 years.
  6. Found Max and Brian and dropped off my stuff.
  7. Went to a bar near U street. I like that area. I was talking to Sarah and we were setting up the surprise for Erin. Got slightly drunk. The rest of the night involves us singing and going to a few different bars. We ended up at a sweet dance party at the top of the stairs of a bar called DC9. I’ve been there before, but it was just Max and I. I really like that place. Now that I know they rock some sweet Daft Punk after hours, I like it a lot more.
  8. I ended up sleeping on Erin’s couch. That was nice, Max’s house was gonna be cold and crowded. And it was nice to hang out with Erin, Sarah, Natalie, and Katie. They are four of the coolest girls in the city.
  9. Woke up at about 12 to a message from Max saying that they were playing in the MLS supporters cup and were really really fucking wasted. The message was left at about 9:30. I was so proud. I knew they were kicking the shit out of those pussy NE fans. Or whoever. As it turns out, they were getting stomped. I’m glad I didn’t play, I would have further hurt my knee. Anyway- they were getting beat so hard that they found Chris Armas, former US national team player, and got him to play. Holy shit. I’ve decided that it was the 67th cap of his career. The first that mattered. I met up with them as they got back from the games. They stole 114 beers from the DC fan club. I say stole, but I don’t think you can steal anything when the person who owns it just watches you take it. I mean- not standing up for your beer is just as bad as giving it away. Gandhi said something like that.
  10. After showers all around we decided to get some grub. Well, a few hours later we were still sitting there. So some people went to eat and goto museums and shit. Max and I went to get Curry and then to the group photo at the Lincoln Memorial. We took like a million pictures with everyone’s camera. I hate that. Just take one and post it up somewhere. Oh well.
  11. Max, Curry and I went to the WWII memorial. I was under whelmed. It could have been much cooler. But I think they were going for low key. And really, in this era of flashy, hi-tech and slick looking everything, for older generation, the target audience of this monument, simpler was probably better.
  12. Then we went to eat some kick ass kabobs. So good.
  13. After eating my weight in Iranian food, I was ready to get my drink on again. This time we went to the awesome Adams-Morgan area. It is like a mini-sixth street. Only more rich fucks. The beers were outrageous (remember that here in Nac beers are $1.35, not $6). We were up at a place called The Angry Itch. Or Inch. I don’t know. Max, Curry and I were the first ones there and we got to watch part of a basketball game. We are all passionate about bball and fantasy bball, so that was maybe the best part of the night, if I can get a little girly on you.
  14. Random Dynamo fans were everywhere in the city, and everyone recognized my beard and jumpsuit. This bar was no exception. Some drunk English guys were drunk and started singing random songs and chants. That was cool.
  15. Then our other Houston people came. I think there were about 40 of us in a bar about the size of my living room. I loved it. We drank, and sang and talked at length at how many dozens of points the Dynamo would score the next morning. Someone allegedly tried to punch Max. I’m glad they didn’t get into a scuffle, b/c I would have gone to jail.
  16. Erin, Brad, Natalie and Sarah came. They had fun and at one point I realized that everyone was leaving and I was with Erin, Brad and Sarah. We ended up at a famous place called Ben’s Chili Bowl. I inhaled some sausage thing after a long wait and then we left. I remember Brad was talking jibber jabber. That was funny.
  17. I went back to Erin’s and again slept on the couch. This time though I had to get up at 8am for the biggest game of the year.
  18. Numbers 18 to ?? will come tomorrow. Those events deserve to be in their own post. A special post that will take all day to write.

I had a great time in DC. I could live there for sure. In Houston or Dallas, you can go days without seeing people. Even if you go to work and do everything you normally do, you could go forever without seeing a single person. In DC you have to see tens of thousands of people every time you leave the house. I really like that. Not to mention the amazingly simple and reliable subway system. How amazing to be wasted with your brothers and sisters and not have to worry about someone driving drunk!

i am on my way to houston in about 30 minutes or so. this dynamo game is huge. we have to win to get into the MLS finals. we'll be playing some chumps that don't really deserve to win, so that's good. i hope the team doesn't look ahead to the next game before they put away this one. if we lose of course, we'll dance and sing and drink until the city falls.

big factor

talked to the parental units tonight. that's always good. i forget to call them sometimes, but it isn't because i don't want to talk to them. i wish they would call me more. i like hearing that they are doing well. Grandpa too. i don't think he's called me more than 3 times in his life. but he is a post all by himself. that man is amazing. i really like talking with him. he has changed so much in his life. i hope my personal growth is as exponential as his has been.

all three of them are really behind my big plans for moving to europe. at first i didn't realize how much that would mean to me, but now i think it is going to be a huge factor.

well, i'm going out tonight. we'll see what comes of that.
then tomorrow i'm going to houston for the dynamo and mabeuf craziness. if the dynamo don't win we're going to raze the city. its going to be great.
